Text Box: Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing that originated in China more than 2500 years ago. Part science and part art, acupuncture alters physical conditions by tapping into the energy system that guides your body’s growth and development.
Through the insertion of fine, stainless steel needles at points on the body, acupuncture gently reduces pain and inflammation, relaxes muscle tension, and re-organizes body systems. By changing the patterns of strain and dis-ease, acupuncture medicine alters chronic conditions, helping you to discover new ways of experiencing your health.
A gentle and effective style of medicine for both adults and children, acupuncture works without harmful drugs or side effects. The needles—which are sterile and are disposed of after each use—are made of very thin, surgical stainless steel (not much thicker than a human hair). During treatment, needles are inserted shallowly, just under the skin, at specific points on the body. A standard acupuncture treatment may use as few as two needles or as many as forty, depending on the condition being treated, the constitution of the client, and the judgment of the acupuncturist. Along with acupuncture, your treatment plan may include Chinese Herbal Medicine, dietary counseling, and lifestyle recommendations.
